Project info

Objective: The primary aim of the study is to investigate if people with borderline (subclinical) hypothyroidism (TSH > 6.0 MlU/L and normal thyroid hormone levels) at baseline have a higher cardiovascular risk and mortality (all cause and cardiovascular) after 30+ years of follow up.
The secondary outcome is to investigate the natural history and time course of borderline (subclinical) hypothyroidism (with or without positive anti microsomal antibodies) over the extended 30+ years follow up period? In people with borderline (subclinical) hyperthyroidism at the 20 year follow up, what is the incidence of overt hyperthyroidism over the ensuing 10 years of what is the cardiovascular outcome?
